LES RESTANQUES DES LIONS

PROVENCE, FRANCE

A scheme combining landscaping, exterior architecture and a studio conversion. This project, which took eight months to complete was carried out on a villa on a steep hillside near the Cote D'Azur. The primary intervention was the removal of the small existing swimming pool and construction of a new larger pool, reorientated to open it up to the incredible view which leant itself well to an infinity edge. This required extensive re-landscaping with new poured concrete retaining walls which created a network of terraces and a large deck. Local stone was harvested from the immediate area to create a dry stone wall which acted as softening backdrop to the pool. New terraces were created all around the house to facilitate greater interplay between interior and exterior. A small separate one bedroom studio was also remodelled to create new living accommodation with its own terrace and stair access to the other parts of the house.
